About the McCamey Economic Development Corporation
The development Corporation Act of 1979 allowed municipalities to create nonprofit corporations to promote local business development. McCamey Economic Development Corporation was created in 2002 to promote economic development and business diversification by using the following objectives: creating new jobs, realizing a net gain in property taxes collected, collecting additional sales tax, making improvements that will result in McCamey being a more attractive place for living, visiting, or investing. Since 2002 the MEDC has helped eleven businesses get started including La Bonita Motel. It has created 17 jobs. The Corporation expanded the Santa Fe Park to include a trailer park, stage, and pavilion. In 2008 the Momentum Skate Park was built with the community’s support. The current board; Sherry Phillips, Corina Navarrete, Lou Ann Watson, Joanne Darby, Christy Hodges, Martin Zuniga, and Donny Wiley are very dedicated and are prepared for the challenges McCamey faces such as housing, diversification, and beautification.
