Sherry Phillips (October 1, 2013-September 30, 2015)
Sherry Babcock Phillips is a native McCameyite. Appointed to the City Council in 2000, finished out a term for a Mayor that resigned, ran for Mayor and was sworn in May of 2000. Mayor Phillips has had to face only one opponant since that time.Soon after being elected, she and City Secretary Lou Ann Watson attended a seminar on economic development. After deciding this was something needed in McCamey, they started working to get one up and running. With much help from others in the community, they were able to establish an Economic Development Corporation. Sherry served as vice-president since it started and is now president.”I want to help McCamey to again be one of the more productive communities in the region. We plan to encourage and support business in our community.”
She was employed by Security State Bank for 17 plus years. Married to Jack Phillips in 1965; three children, Shelley Shackelford of Wink, Lisa Thurman of Dana Point, CA and Jack Christopher Phillips of Cedar Creek, TX. Seven grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.
Joanne Darby (October 1, 2013-September 30, 2015)
Joanne Darby was born in Ohio. She has a BS in education from Ohio University and additional undergraduate hours in music from Muskingum College. While teaching primary school, she also worked in music retail and taught private and group music lessons.
Texas weather and migrating family brought her to McCamey in 1978. McCamey Music Mart opened Nov. 1 and has been in operation since.
She is active in the EDC, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, FUMC choir, and the American Guild of Music.
