About the Area

The City of McCamey is in Upton County and located at the intersections of State Highway 67, 305, & 385.  We are midway between Interstate 10 and Interstate 20.  Because we are near larger cities, all of the "big-city" benefits are close at hand, but McCamey maintains the character of a small community.

McCamey is 45 minutes from Odessa, Midland, or Ft. Stockton, and we are 1 hour and 45 minutes from San Angelo.

The terrain is part prairie with mesas. That is why McCamey is the "Wind Energy Capital of Texas" and is the logical place for Wind Energy production.  Presently, there are many wind turbines across the countryside and we take great pride in the fact that the City of McCamey agressively promotes going "green".

We are situated in the Chihuahuan desert and vegetation thoughout Upton County includes mesquite, greasewood, small cedar, and catclaw.
