On Saturday, April 10th at 9 A.M. volunteers met at the old post office park to participate in the “Don’t Mess with Texas Trash Off” / “Great American Cleanup”. Equipped with gloves, trash bags and a couple of weed eaters these proud volunteers took on the task of picking up trash in designated areas that were in dire need of attention and weed eating around the old post office and 5th Street. Scheduled on a Saturday with limited publicity McCamey had forty five residents who participated. Unusual finds for the day included a three prong gardening tool, bull dog statue, welding mask, purse, note clip and money. The turnout was a great expression of pride in our community. One hundred ten (110) bags were collected bringing the total bag count to one hundred fifty nine (159) and 5 loads of debris. Following the cleanup a delicious meal of brisket & sausage prepared and provided by Alex Cavazos with side dishes, desserts and drinks provided by La Bonita Inn were enjoyed by the volunteers at the Santa Fe Depot.
